JEAN DE LATRAN. / 1545 IL REVIENT AUX PAYS-BAS, VOYAGE EN FRANCE ET EN ANGLETERRE ET SE FIXE A ANVERS PENDANT DEUX ANS. 1557 LE DUC DE BAVIÈRE L’APPELLE A SA COUR EN QUALITÉ DE MAÎTRE DE CHAPELLE. / 1570 L’EMPEREUR MAXIMILIEN II L’ANOBLIT. / 1571 A PARIS CHARLES IX LE COMBLE DE PRÉSENTS. / 1574 GRÉGOIRE XIII LE CRÉE CHEVALIER DE L’EPÉRON D’OR. / LA MORT DE CHARLES IX LE FAIT RETOURNER A MUNICH. / 1593 IL Y MEURT.”
(Translation: “Prince of the composers of his time. He was the head of the German school. In 1544 he became chapel master of St. John Lateran. In 1545 he returned to the Low Countries, traveled in France and England, and settled in Antwerp for two years. In 1557 the Duke of Bavaria called him to his court as chapel master. In 1570 Emperor Maximilian II ennobled him. In 1571 in Paris, Charles IX showered him with gifts. In 1574 Gregory XIII made him Knight of the Golden Spur. The death of Charles IX caused him to return to Munich, where he died in 1593.”)
