Obverse: Bust of J.-B.-J. d’Omalius d’Halloy facing left, wearing a coat with high collar. Around, the inscription: “J. B. D’OMALIUS D’HALLOY.” At truncation: engraver’s signature.
Reverse: Latin inscription in twelve lines:
“GEOLOGO ILLUSTRI / J. B. J. D’OMALIUS D’HALLOY / ACADEMIAE REGIAE BELGICAE / QUINQUAGINTA NOVEM IAM / ANNOS DECORI ET ORNAMENTO / VENERABUNDI GRATIQUE ANIMI / TESTIMONIUM EXTARE VOLUIT / COLLEGARUM / REVERENTIA PIETAS / MDCCCLXXV.”
(Translation: “To the illustrious geologist J. B. J. d’Omalius d’Halloy, who for fifty-nine years has been an honor and ornament to the Royal Academy of Belgium, a testimony of reverence and gratitude from his colleagues, 1875.”)
