Antimachos II Nikephoros – AR Drachm, ca. 165–160 v.Chr., Indo-Greek Kingdom – Nike & Horseman Type

Obverse: Nike advancing left, holding wreath and palm; Greek legend “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΟΥ ΑΝΤΙΜΑΧΟΥ” (of King Antimachos the Bringer of Victory).

Reverse: King on horseback right; Kharoshthi legend around.

Historical Context:
Antimachos II, mogelijk de zoon of opvolger van Antimachos I, regeerde in een periode van politieke versnippering in Bactrië. Zijn bijnaam “Nikephoros” (Overwinnaar) onderstreept de propagandistische waarde van zijn munten, vooral in een tijd waarin Indo-Scythische invallen het gebied bedreigden. De combinatie van Griekse en Kharoshthi-legende maakt dit een typisch Indo-Grieks overgangstype. De voorzijde met Nike — godin van de overwinning — en de keerzijde met de koning te paard, drukken het ideaal van Hellenistische koningschap uit in visuele en talige vorm.
