Mauritius – 1971 – 200 Rupees – Independence – Gold – PCGS MS68

This gold coin from Mauritius was minted in 1971 as a commemorative coin for independence . In this way, it combines modern Commonwealth nostalgia with a clear historical statement, while at the same time it impresses as a comparatively low-minted gold issue in high condition.

The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II with a crowned portrait facing right; the inscription also mentions the monarchy reference and the year 1971. The reverse bears the legend MAURITIUS INDEPENDENCE and shows a couple in the forest as a symbolic motif, thus figuratively interpreting the theme of the issue. Below is the face value 200 RUPEES .

The item offered here was rated MS68 by PCGS . This results in an exceptionally high-quality standard coin in mint-state condition, meaning that surface quality, minting freshness and overall impression are at a particularly high level.
