England, Cnut, silver penny, c. AD 1016-23, Osgut (Asgautr) moneyer, at the Lincoln mint; his bust left in quatrefoil/long cross superimposed on quatrefoil with pellets at the four cusps. 0.88 g.
The moneyer's name Osgut (Old Norse spelling: Asgautr) was clearly of Norse descent, an indication of the extensive Scandinavian settlement in England by the time of Cnut's reign.
Better than very fine, minor deposit, peckmarks. Rare moneyer.
