A coin born at the edge of a dying king’s empire—this silver tetradrachm bridges the final years of Alexander the Great’s rule and the dawn of the Diadochi era. Struck at Pella, Alexander’s birthplace, between 315–310 BC, this issue reflects both reverence and ambition—minted under Cassander, one of Alexander’s successors and eventual rival to his legacy.

Obverse:
Heracles (Hercules) faces right, clad in the lion skin of the Nemean beast—a bold icon of divine strength. This was the heroic image Alexander himself claimed as a symbol of his semi-divine status.

Reverse:
Zeus, enthroned and regal, holds an eagle in his right hand and a scepter in his left. The Greek inscription AΛEΞANΔPOY (“of Alexander”) honors the great king.
