The design belongs to the well-documented series of medals produced in 1938 to celebrate the birth of Princess Beatrix.

The standard form of this Hüttl design combines the present allegorical composition with a reverse depicting Palace Soestdijk. Contemporary and museum records document several modules, including approximately 28 and 30 mm suspension versions.

The present specimen is unusual in having the Beatrix allegory only, while the opposite side is completely plain.

This uniface small-module form is not recorded as a separate variety in A.J. Bemolt van Loghum Slaterus, Oranjepenningen 1909–1948, where the related 28, 30 and 40 mm versions are described as two-sided medals.

It should therefore be regarded as an unlisted uniface variety of the documented Hüttl type rather than as the standard 30 mm issue.

Eduard Hüttl was an important medallist active in the Netherlands and produced numerous designs for Begeer. This Beatrix composition was among his final works; Hüttl died later in 1938.
