One of the oldest symbols for peace is the dove. The olive branch also stood for peace in ancient Greece and gained further significance in the Roman Empire through the Pax Romana as a sign of ambassadors. Through Christian representations of the dove with olive branch in the context of baptism, the bird then finally became known worldwide as a symbol of peace.
