The Vikings from northern Europe were not only feared warriors and experienced sailors, but also well-connected traders. It is therefore not surprising that they brought home silver from all over the world from their voyages, especially as there were only a few deposits of the precious metal in their homeland. The pragmatic Norsemen accepted the silver from Arabia as a means of payment, just like the denarii from the fallen Roman Empire. During their excavations, archaeologists have found silver coins, jewelry and everyday objects that prove how far the Vikings traveled on their raids and trading voyages. This collection contains four unique historical coins: an Indian 1 drachma coin, a 1 jital coin of the Kabul Shahis, an Arabic 1 dirham coin and a Roman denarius from the 2nd century.
