Frederik VI was the last Danish King of Norway. Due to political support from France, Denmark was forced to cede Norway to Sweden in the Treaty of Kiel on January 14, 1814, after the Napoleonic Wars.
This ended a personal union between Denmark and Norway that had lasted over 400 years; the union began in 1380.
