Large copper medal for the 1100th anniversary of Norway.
This medal was awarded to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the creation of Norway, which according to tradition took place at the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872, although the date cannot be confirmed. This winning design in the Norwegian Cultural Council medal competition was made by sculptor Nils Aas. “It alludes – without intrusive symbolism – to the past and the present and to the uniqueness of Norway, an unmistakable country rising from the sea.”
The medal is struck by the Kongsberg Royal Mint.
Medal comes in a velor case.
