PCGS PR 63 CAMEO - NO PROOF MINTAGE per Krause.
Despite being very common as a circulation issue (about 1 million pieces minted) it is an extremely hard to find this commemorative taler in Proof strike as well as the proof numbers are not given in standard references. Coronation or Kroenungstaler of the Wilhelm I and Augusta of Prussia. Wilhelm had become King of Prussia in January 1861 the ceremony had a place in Koenigsberg on October 18, 1861. The interesting fact is that Wilhelm I would become the First German Emperor in 1871, so this coin portrays Wilhelm and Augusta a decade before they became German Emperor and Empress. This particular coin is a choice Proof with deep reflective fields, strongly frosted devices, excellent strike and pronounced cameo contrast, with moderate fine hair lining in the fields consistent with the PCGS PR 63 CAMEO grade. Impressive collectible and investment piece from all perspectives!
