We are offering very RARE taler of the Free City of Frankfurt (Freie Stadt Frankfurt) issued in 1857. It is the first year of this Frankfurt Vereinsthaler (Union Taler) type. The attractive design with Francofurtia facing right and the Cathedral tower in the background. This particular variety distinguished by German Specialist References as Thun 141 (with roofs) and associated with the Eschersheimer tower as well as reported as "scarce" (selten). It is mislabeled by PCGS as w/o Houses with this particular coin is being "With Houses" indeed - NGC/PCGS do it all the time! Choise Mint State for the grade, with a bold, well-centered strike and excellent definition throughout Franconia's portrait, architectural elements, and the reverse eagle. Substantial original mint brilliance remains beneath attractive peripheral toning. Scattered fine contact marks and light field disturbances account for the MS 62 designation, but no significant wear or major distracting marks are evident. Particularly pleasing reverse surfaces and strong overall eye appeal. Great and RARE collectible and investment coin!!
