Low Mintage - 250 pieces struck ONLY (per Kuenker).
Very interesting and RARE Reichstaler of the Free Imperial City of Regensburg. Attractive medallic design with crossed keys, the Arms of Regensburg, surrounded by Baroque cartouche. The little wing symbol at the bottom is the mintmaster's mark of Johann Michael Federer, Mintmaster in Regensburg from 1700-1740. The dies are attributed to to the engraver Philipp Heinrich Mueller. The coin is perfectly reflects the Free Imperial City status of the Regensburg - its own civic arms on one side, but recognition of the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph I on the other. This is a genue scarce and one-year ONLY taler with only 250 originally struck in 1706. Attractive gray charcoal patina with slightly wavy undulating luster from roller-die manufacture creates very special sophisticated look. Some surface irregularity as well as small rim damage on reverse approximately at 7 0'clock explain the grade - MS 61 per NGC. Still one of the TOP QUALITY specimens of this RARE type of the taler! Great collectible and investment find!
