Islam Shah Suri (r. 1545–1554) was the son and successor of Sher Shah Suri and ruled the Suri Empire from Delhi during its height. A capable and disciplined administrator, he worked to preserve and strengthen his father’s reforms, maintaining efficient revenue systems and a strong centralized government. Islam Shah also suppressed rebellious nobles and rival claimants to secure his authority, though his strict rule created resentment among the Afghan elite. Despite his effectiveness, his death led to rapid instability and succession struggles, contributing to the eventual decline of Sur rule and the restoration of the Mughal Empire.
